The new Paint-By-Grid Transfer Sheets from Paint-By-Grids (www.TransferSheets.com)
use this ancient method to help anyone (age 7 and up) become an artist-without
the math calculations that are usually required. Artists simply tape the
transfer sheet to any desired painting surface and use the transparent
Image Guides included with each Transfer Sheet pack to sketch one square
at a time until the entire sketch is complete. The squares (or grids)
ensure the artist's sketch will perfectly match the shape and perspective
of the original photograph. Michael Yelverton, age 14, says that the Transfer Sheet set is "...
the best invention since the computer. If you want to paint well, but
you can't, choose Paint-By-Grids... It works." Adults like Mary McEvoy
note "As a result of Paint-By-Grids the painting is very much improved."
The new Transfer Sheet method differs from the traditional "grid
method," where the artist draws a grid onto the original photograph
or image that he/she wishes to paint, and then draws a matching grid on
the canvas or painting surface. Not only do many artists not wish to deface
their original image with a grid, but a grid drawn on the painting surface
is not always easy to erase. Further, the calculations involved in scaling
from the original size to the canvas size are sometimes difficult, particularly
when the canvas shape doesn't match the original photo. Transfer Sheets are available in seven different sizes, ranging from 8" x 10" to 24" x 30". Paint-By-Grids manufactures a wide line of grid-related artist products, which may be viewed and purchased on-line at www.paintbygrids.com. Selected products are available at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and other retail stores, or by mail order through catalogs such as Art Supply Warehouse, Crafts Americana, and Jerry's Artarama. Founded in 2000, Paint-By-Grids is a privately held LLC located in Reno, Nevada.
